We are driven to increase both domestic and international soybean demand by positioning U.S. soy as first choice around the world. You farm a successful and sustainable soybean crop; we help grow established markets and develop new ways to use it.

 Animal Agriculture

We work to build a thriving animal agriculture economy in Iowa and around the world by partnering with pork, poultry, aquaculture and cattle industries, as well as feed and soybean meal scientists, as livestock feed remains the largest market for Iowa soybeans. 

Pork Industry

Few things go better together than pork and beans. Around 9% of a soybean bushel’s value is attributed to pork exports., which adds $3.9 billion to the soybean industry. One out of five rows of soybeans grown in the state are consumed by pigs raised in Iowa. 

Egg & Poultry Industry

In 2018, the U.S. poultry and egg industry exported 3.9 million metric tons of product, which utilized about 147 million soybean bushels worth $4.5 billion, equalling 18 million bushel equivalents from the state of Iowa. 

Aquaculture Industry

Currently, the U.S. imports roughly 93% of all the fish consumed domestically. Over the last few years, growers in Iowa are looking at making their splash into aquaculture, hoping to capitalize on the abundantly available feed source — soybean meal. Learn more about aquaculture in Iowa.

 Export Markets

You produce the soybeans; we get them overseas by expanding exports to new and growing markets. We partner with the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) to leverage checkoff and non-checkoff resources in the quest to maintain and expand markets around the world. Americas

The Americas region is home to a population of 303 million and represents 6 percent of the world GDP with an average GDP growth of 3.5 percent. Mexico and Canada are key stable markets and Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela are key growth markets for U.S. Soy. South & Southeast Asia

South Asia is home to over 1.8 billion people, accounting for nearly 24% of the Earth’s population, and this enormous consumer base is becoming more affluent and demanding more protein. Northeast Asia & Greater China

Long-term relationships define U.S. Soy’s presence in Japan, as the U.S. soy industry has maintained a constant presence in that country since 1956. A staggering 1.424 billion soy consumers reside in the Greater China Region and it boasts a growing middle class that is improving and diversifying its diet with an increased consumption of vegetable and animal protein and vegetable oils derived from soy. Europe

With a population of 850 million people, the region represents 27% of the world’s GDP. Europe represents 11% of U.S. soybean and soymeal exports at 6,500,00 MT (238 million bushels). The 10 countries of Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, United Kingdom, Denmark, Portugal, Turkey and Russia import over 150,000 MT of U.S. Soy. U.S. East Coast exports to Europe are strong. The U.S. Soy industry holds a competitive advantage in the Greater Europe region because of its work in the area of sustainability, which is of increasing importance to the European food and feed industry. Read about ISA's 2018 European trade mission.

Middle East/North Africa

The MENA region is home to 380 million people or 6 percent of the global population. The regional GDP is 4.5 percent of the world’s GDP with wide geographic swings. The countries of Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Israel import over 150,000 metric tons of U.S. Soy and the region represents 4 percent of total U.S. Soy exports. Egypt is the most important market for the U.S. Soy industry in the region as it approaches 1 million tons of imported U.S. Soy.  New Uses

 Soyfoods

Nearly three quarters of U.S. consumers believe in supporting domestic agriculture by buying foods produced with crops grown by U.S. farmers, and incorporating soy into your diet is a great way to do do that. Some top soyfoods choices include protein bars, fresh edamame, tofu and meat or milk alternatives. ISA supports education around soyfoods, including giving consumers the scoop on soy and helping them learn to savor soyfoods
